Uses

This combination medication is used to treat certain mental/mood disorders (such as depression associated with bipolar disorder). It is also used to treat depression that has not responded to other medications. Olanzapine belongs to a class of drugs known as atypical antipsychotics. Fluoxetine belongs to a class of drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Olanzapine/fluoxetine works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances (such as serotonin) in the brain.

How to Use This Medication

Read the Medication Guide provided by your pharmacist before you start using olanzapine/fluoxetine and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily in the evening.

The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.

Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. Remember to use it at the same time each day.

It may take up to several weeks before the full benefit of this drug takes effect. Keep taking this medication even if you feel well. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor. Some conditions may become worse when the drug is abruptly stopped. Your dose may need to be gradually decreased.

If your condition lasts or gets worse, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
