Resveratrol Supplements Boost Memory in Older Adults

A clinical study published in the Journal of Neuroscience found that resveratrol supplements may boost memory performance in older adults. For the study, researchers provided 200 mg of resveratrol or a placebo daily to men and women between the ages of 50 and 75, for 26 weeks. Researchers found that the resveratrol group did significantly better at word retention, had markers of reduced blood glucose levels, and showed increases in hippocampal functional connectivity within the brain. Resveratrol, a polyphenol, is a compound found in red wine and is often touted for its health benefits. Scientists have primarily studied it for its cardiovascular benefits, although there has been some previous research into its effects on brain function.
