Vitamin D Improves Colon Cancer Survival Rates

Vitamin D, known for important health benefits such as bone support, now seems to promote longevity in another way—by improving survival rates among colon cancer patients. A new study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology tracked 1,600 people after surgery for colon cancer. Patients with the highest levels of vitamin D had half the risk of dying from the disease as those with the lowest levels. Though previously linked with lowering colon cancer risk, this is the first study to confirm a link between vitamin D levels and long-term survival rates for colon cancer.
