Chewy Molasses Spice Cookies
Chewy cookies that pack a spicy punch!
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter, room temperature
- 1/2 cup shortening, room temperature
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/3 cup molasses
- 1 egg
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp ground allspice
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 cup white sugar (for rolling cookie dough in)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- With a mixer cream the butter, shortening, and brown sugar. Add molasses and egg to creamed butter and sugar. Mix until light and fluffy.
- In another bowl sift together flour, salt, baking soda, allspice, cloves, ginger, and cinnamon.
- Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Take teaspoons of dough and roll in white sugar and in the palm of your hand to make little balls. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake until just firm for 10 to15 minutes; do not over-bake. They should be browned but look underdone when removed from oven. They will firm up when cooled. For a crisp cookie, cook longer.
