Tamale Pie
Dig into a real piece of Mexican-inspired Americana.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup chopped onions
- 1 Tbs vegetable oil
- 1 lb ground beef
- 8 oz tomato sauce
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp red chili seasoning
- 12 premade tamales
- 2 cups whole-kernel corn, drained
- 1/4 cup chopped black olives
- 1/2 cup grated Monterey Jack cheese
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Warm vegetable oil in skillet and sauté onions until caramelized.
- Add beef and brown.
- Add tomato sauce, salt, and chili seasoning; mix well and remove from heat once flavors are well incorporated.
- Remove tamales from husks and mash in a bowl; stir in corn and olives.
- Grease a 2-quart casserole dish with vegetable oil and place half of tamale mixture at bottom.
- Add meat mixture as next layer and top with remaining tamale mixture.
- Sprinkle with grated cheese.
- Bake for 1 hour.
