Uses
This medication is used to treat severe agitation associated with a certain mental/mood disorder (schizophrenia). Ziprasidone belongs to a class of drugs known as atypical antipsychotics. It works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances in the brain.
Ziprasidone injection is used when quick relief of your symptoms is required. It is not used together with the form of this medication that is taken by mouth.
Warning
There may be a slightly increased risk of serious, possibly fatal side effects (such as stroke, heart failure, fast/irregular heartbeat, pneumonia) when this medication is used by older adults with dementia. This medication is not approved for the treatment of dementia-related behavior problems. How to Use This Medication
This medication is given by injection into a muscle by a healthcare professional. The dose and frequency of use will depend on your condition and response to treatment.
This medication is intended for short-term control of severe occurrences of agitation. If you require continuous treatment for your condition, your doctor may switch you to an oral medication.
