This medication is the same as a protein that your body naturally produces (interferon). In the body, it is thought to work by affecting cell function/growth and the body's natural defenses (immune system) in many ways. Adding more interferon may help your body fight off serious infections. How to Use This MedicationRead the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start using this medication and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist. This medication is given by injection under the skin as directed by your doctor, usually 3 times weekly (for example, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). The injection is given in the thighs or upper arms. This medication is best used in the evening before bedtime to reduce side effects. The dosage is based on your body size, medical condition, and response to treatment. If you are giving this medication to yourself at home, learn all preparation and usage instructions from your health care professional. Do not shake the solution. Before using, check this product for particles or discoloration. If either is present, do not use the liquid. Before injecting each dose, clean the skin you are going to inject into (the injection site) with rubbing alcohol. Change the injection site each time to lessen injury under the skin. Do not inject into skin that is irritated, sore, or infected. To lessen bruising, do not rub the injection site after a shot. Learn how to store and discard medical supplies safely.
