PimavanserinPronounced"PIM-a-VAN-ser-in" UsesThis medication is used to treat the symptoms of a certain mental/mood disorder (psychosis) that might occur with Parkinson's disease. Pimavanserin belongs to a class of drugs known as atypical antipsychotics. It works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural substances in the brain. How to Use This MedicationTake this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily. If you have trouble swallowing the capsule, it may be opened and the contents mixed in a tablespoonful (15 milliliters) of applesauce, yogurt, pudding, or a liquid nutritional supplement. Eat/drink the mixture right away, without chewing it. Do not save the mixture for future use. Take this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day. The dosage is based on other medications you may be taking. Be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products). Tell your doctor if your condition gets worse. |
