Uses

Ferric maltol is an iron supplement used to treat low levels of iron in the blood (such as those caused by anemia). Iron is an important mineral that the body needs to produce red blood cells and keep you in good health.

How to Use This Medication

Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start taking ferric maltol and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Take this medication by mouth on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals) as directed by your doctor, usually twice daily. Swallow the capsules whole. Do not open, break, or chew the capsules. Take this medication with a full glass of water (8 ounces/240 milliliters) unless your doctor directs you otherwise. Do not lie down for at least 10 minutes after taking this medication.

Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same times each day.
